New SATUK Council Sworn In

After several weeks of campaigning, the Students Association of Technical University of Kenya (SATUK) officials were elected on Thursday February 14, 2019.
The successful candidates were sworn in on Friday 15th February in a ceremony witnessed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Aduol. The new officials will steer the student body for the year 2019/2020 and will include 12 council members and representatives of various schools of the University.
Mr Paul Karanja was elected Chairman with Veronicah Okola as the vice-chairperson. Others were Neville Odhiambo (Secretary General), Lavina Cherono (Finance), Bram Muturi (Academic Secretary), Faith Thuku (Gender and Welfare Secretary), Japhet Kotieno (Sports, Entertainment and Culture Secretary), Tryphone Oyoo (Men’s Hostel) and Faith Masoso (Women’s Hostel).
Others included Kasmuel Oure (Speaker), Peter Mburu (Deputy Speaker), Faith Wanjala (Clerk) and Philip Odingo the Sergent-at Arms).
The VC congratulated the team for being elected to steer the leadership of the students association and warned them against misusing their powers. “Power can construct or destroy you. You must be responsible for your decisions”, Prof. Aduol said.
The ceremony was conducted by the University Secretary, Ms Ruth Kirwa, and was attended by the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology, Prof. Peter Matu, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences and Technology Prof. Alex Muumbo, Director of Student Affairs, Prof Omondi Oketch, among other senior members the University Management.
